What is Stump Grinding or Stump Removal?
Tree stump removal is the process of completely removing a tree stump below ground level and severing the immediately adjacent roots.
How to remove stump or why to remove stump?
Stumped specializes in stump removal/stump grinding using the latest up to date machinery- stump grinder.
After a tree has been felled the remaining stump can be left as it is (possibility of suckering and fungal root rots if tree is diseased-honey fungus which might lead to disease spreading), it can be poisoned, grubbed out or ground out using stump grinder.
Our machines Rayco RG 13 ii 25" (63.5 cm) wide and Predator 38X 26'' (67cm) are designed for narrow access situations and with minimal ground disturbance can grind out almost any tree stumps and surface roots well below the ground level thus preventing the stump from regrowing. This allows re-planting, re-turfing or ground preparation for soft/hard landscaping.
We can as well poison the stump before stump grinding as some species can regenerate and start sending and spreading shoots from the root system even if they have been ground out below the surface.
A stump grinding machine has a rotating head with teeth that spins at very high speed, grinding/beating the tree stump out of the ground into small chippings - mulch.
This resulting 'mulch' is back filled into the hole created by the tree stump being removed and is trodden down as hard as possible. There will be further settlement as the mulch rots down over a period of weeks.
Any excess mulch is left for the client to use elsewhere in the garden to compost or to reduce water loss from the soil, minimize weed competition and improve soil structure.
We can take any excess mulch away and depending on the amount/volume of mulch there might be additional charge applied.
While many trees have extremely shallow root systems, others can be as deep as 3 to 4 metres in order to anchor the tree to the ground. Generally speaking stump grinding only includes the grinding of the stump and immediate side/lateral roots. The remaining roots will die when severed from the stump, however, if you require additional roots to be removed then this will be no problem but it will affect the tree stump removal cost.
We work in partnership with many London based tree surgeon. If you need your tree reduced or cut down. Please get IN TOUCH with us and we will recommend one based on your location.

Predator 38X can easily fit through 27'' (70cm) wide gates or alleyways and can ground out stumps up to 40cm below ground level.
